[ cheering ]. . that should end it. and who else than scutaro, and the giants have won the pennant. >> game 7, wow. a hellacious rain storm and the giants storm their way into the world series. good evening. >> it's a baseball game, and frankly a baseball team, that people will be talking about for a long time. and if you're a fan, how often do you get to enjoy a post-season like this? you are looking at video of the mission tonight where people are celebrating a giants team that just keeps doing the impossible. >> yeah. more on the fans in a moment. but let's go out live at at & t. quite a show tonight. >> reporter: you were talking about the rain storm.
11:01 pm
we're dishevelled out here because of the rain and the champagne. 128 years of baseball spread hay cross two coasts and the unbelievable the giants had never won a seventh and deciding game in the playoffs until tonight. here is how it came down. fans putting their trust in cain to get it done. he delivers with his arm and bat. an rbi base hit, to give san fransisco a 2-0 heed. and then one inning later, giants bust it open with the bases loaded. everybody comes around to score to make it 5-0. the giants win 9-0. the rain is pouring down. here is the final out. >> that should end it. and who else but scutaro? and the giants have won the pennant. 9-0 the final. >> reporter: and here it is. the giants indeed have won the
11:02 pm
pennant. [ cheering ]. . >> how can you explain a team that comes back from 2, 3 games down, in back to back series to get to the world series. >> it tells you we don't give up. we're going to go out there until the last out. we have shown it. that's the kind of team we are. >> i never thought i'd be in this situation when i was sitting at home on my coach with no job in the middle of july. >> giants win the pennant! oh, wow. >> reporter: they do win the pennant and it's great stuff. they are trying to get the field back in shape. the detroit tigers coming to town for practice tomorrow afternoon. >> rain can't keep the team down, can't keep the fans down. we're going to check out elizabeth cook who is with the
11:03 pm
crowds tonight. [ cheering ]. . >> reporter: it was the moment giants fans have been waiting for. >> go giants, baby! >> we're back! one more baby, we're coming back. >> reporter: dreams for a world series run are now a reality. >> we need this win, we needed it bad, and we got it. >> reporter: fans climbed over the willy may's statue for a prime spot. >> we got the world series on lock, who knows? we're on top of the world right now. >> reporter: cheering for their team and maybe just as much for their hometown. >> san fransisco is the best. everybody gets along, everybody is on a good hype. >> hooez cook out there among -- elizabeth cook out there among the giants faithful tonight. the weather, that storm was like
11:04 pm
a fastball aimed at the park, right down the middle. >> look at that video. scutaro loved it. it's okay to get pouring rainfall when you're winning 9-0 than you're losing 9-0. it was amazing, right at the 9th inning, show you video of exactly where the heaviest rainfall was. it wasn't to the north of at & t park, it wasn't to the south of at & t, the heaviest rainfall in the entire bay area was right over the stadium and it led to beautiful pictures coming from at & t park when that game was going on and thankfully when it ended in that giants victory. let's transition to high def doppler live. live me show you what's going on now because there's more rain headed for san fransisco. rain is about 45 minutes away, hayward, union city, getting steady rainfall. this rain moving through sonoma,
11:05 pm
napa county. vacaville getting heavy rainfall. in vacaville, in the oak aland hills, and half an inch in menlow park and walnut creek. this is round two of three. we'll talk about when the rain is moving out in time for the world series coming up in a few short minutes. >> wasn't rain, it was champagne. much more with dennis and the giants coming up in sports. game one of the world series wednesday night, at & t park, giants tigers, game time is a 5:07. back in the giants won game six on sunday night, about 6 million americans were watching. tomorrow we're going to find out how many people watched soggy game seven beatdown and we'll learn how many americans tuned in for round three of the obama/romney debate. we are getting an early idea of how the audience scored this
11:06 pm
match. >> reporter: that's right. a big night in politics, right? and in a cbs news flash full of uncommitted voters that was taken immediately after the debate, 53% said that they believe president obama won. 23% bheefd that romney was the -- believed that romney was the winner that time around and 24% said it was a tie. and while tonight was supposed to be about foreign affairs, both candidate brought up domestic policy repeatedly. it is the final debate and it didn't take long for the punches to start flying. >> i congratulate him for going after al-qaeda but we can't kill ourselves out of this mess. >> a few months ago when you were asked what's the biggest threat facing america you said russia. not al-qaeda, you said russia. in the 1980s or not, that's the foreign policy. the cold war has been over for
11:07 pm
years. >> i'm not going to wear rose colored glasses when it comes to russia. after the election he'll get more back bone. >> reporter: but when it came to the military, the president did not hold back. >> our navy is smaller now than any time since 1917. >> you mentioned the navy, for example, and we have fewer ships than we did in 1916. well, governor, we also have fewer horses and bayonets because the nature of our military has change. >> reporter: both candidates took every opportunity to turn the conversation back to domestic issues. >> for us to be able to promote those principles of peace requires us to be strong and that begins with a strong economy here at home and unfortunately it's not strong. >> it allows us to reduce our deficit which is a significant national security concern because we've got to make sure that our economy is strong at home so that we can project military power overseas.
11:08 pm
>> reporter: even education, clearly not a foreign policy issue, became a major topic point. >> if they graduated in the top quarter of their class they got a four-year tuition free ride at any massachusetts public institution of higher learning. >> that was there before you came into office. >> reporter: right after the debate you walked in, joe, and you said you believed the president dominated tonight, why? >> there were instances where he continually reminded the governor of statements the gov more had made before that were inconsistent with the statements he's making now. education would be one of those. and the other part of it was that the president is the incumbent, the person who is the commander-in-chief. he's the one that gets the real
11:09 pm
intelligence briefings. he sounded like it tonight. and mitt romney that's the whole reason you said at the beginning of your piece that he kept talking about the economy because he didn't have much to offer on foreign policy that was different than the president. >> reporter: the governor said he would never liquidate the auto industry and here's the president's response. >> anybody out this can check the record. governor romney you keep on trying to air brush history. you were very clear that you would not provide government assistance to the u.s. auto companies, even if they went through bankruptcies, you said they could get it in the private marketplace. that wasn't true. >> reporter: so what's your take on this? >> another example of him reminding him of things he said. for an important state like michigan which is in play, where you have a lot of workers and the union jobs and the like, the president reminding the governor of things the governor said
11:10 pm
during a competitive republican primary and now softening his position. and that his position, romney's position had been inconsistent with what he's saying today. i think all of these things at the end of the day matter, grace. i have to say, though, that in spite of much of this the real question in this election is going to be about domestic issues. i think the president will get the news narrative, but this is going to be a jobs and who do americans trust more with this in the end. >> one other thing they talked about was israel. you said that was important for both sides because they were in florida tonight. >> yes. there are a large number of jewish voters, and for many of the seniors in that community support for israel is an absolute. and many of them voted for obama in 2008, they're reconsidering
11:11 pm
that in 2012 much because of the heavy republican campaigning and advertising which suggests that obama wants to put daylight between the u.s. and israel. you heard the president support israel. most of the country didn't care about that. people in that community did. that's a swing state. if that state goes to obama, his path to reelection is clear. >> it's about the swing states. let's go back to you. coming up, fantasy sports turned into a whole different kind of ball game. how a bay area high school is responding to the discovery of the fantasy sex league. and it turns out sex can sully an otherwise good political money. the oakland campaign donation that will now be going to charity. one more note on the giants as we look at city hall basking in orange game seven afterglow. you see the world series banner
11:12 pm

11:16 pm
for sexual activity with another student. female students score the points for their team by engaging in any documented form of sexual act with any boy or girl which through gossip comes to be known bishop the boys. the boys who participate in fsl are incentivized to perform any act. >> reporter: they want to treat this as an opportunity to educate students about why this is wrong. they want to open up a dialogue and hold an an assembly to address this matter. an oakland city council member is giving away some campaign cash after finding the donor owned one of oakland's most notorious hotels.
11:17 pm
the economy inn was a magnet for prostitution but not before the owner was sent $700 for his reelection campaign. it's not always easy to know who his contributors are. >> we get contributions by mail, bypaypal, so we don't know until somebody brings it up. >> he says he is donating the money to covenant house. the owner of the hotel says the councilman did not solicit the donation. more bay area headlines tonight, a domestic dispute in san jose ended with the girlfriend pulling out a gun and shooting his boyfriend dead. it happened at a house party on beaman drive over the weekend. live died at the scene. anda koon is under arrest.
